When I Feel the Need to Be, I Can Not Regret the Pain of Others
7PM – 10PM
Ballroom Gallery
1511 Guilford Ave B202, Baltimore
In conjunction with Alloverstreet. Please join us for artist Allana Clarke’s first exhibition with Ballroom Gallery. For her first exhibition with the gallery Clarke incorporates video, performance, photography, and language to dissect the complicated nuances of human existence. These works function as a vessel to contemplate the preexisting cultural specificities we are all born into based on a variety of conditions that are out of our control. How can we come to terms with not having control and the inclination to constantly compartmentalize information about objects and bodies we are increasingly bombarded with? These inclinations become extremely difficult to comprehend and cause us to become dissociated with our bodies and the bodies of others. Like a linear trajectory dissociated enables us to block out the trauma of others in an effort to establish our own individualism and agency. With “When I Feel the Need to Be I Can Not Regard the Pain of Others, Clarke inquires about the sustainability of such practices.
