Things to do in Baltimore this week 3/12/18

I’m trying to keep it rather low key on the plans this week, which is hard because there is a lot of good stuff going on. Maybe I’ll take care of all my required adult tasks (ugh taxes) more quickly than planned. Either way, I cannot miss Baltimore Magazine’s The Dinner Party Thursday night. What is more exciting than spending $100+ on tickets to a location you won’t know about until the day of? Also, after what seems like a million billion years, The Baltimore Whiskey Company is having it’s Official Rye Whiskey Release Party! No pressure, but it better be delicious! Last but not least, Coffee Fest Baltimore is going on at the Convention Center Friday through Sunday. I’m going to wander over there on Sunday morning to immerse myself in the wonderful world of coffee. I’m super excited for all of these events. I hope you can find something in my list to be excited about too!

The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare
Mar 9 – April 7
Chesapeake Shakespeare Company
7 South Calvert Street, Baltimore
“The Winter’s Tale” is Shakespeare’s dazzling fantasy about love’s enduring magic, celebrating springtime’s promise of renewal, rebirth, and second chances. The story unfolds like a medieval folk tale: an irrational king pays dearly and repents after abandoning his wife and infant. We follow the emotional journey of each character through the long, harsh winter of betrayal to a faraway springtime blossoming with the wondrous possibility of forgiveness and redemption. Along the way, there are both tears and laughter. Can what’s loved and lost be found? Find out. This is the play containing Shakespeare’s famous stage direction: “Exit, pursued by a bear.”
Performances March 9 through April 7, 2018, including a matinee on Easter Sunday. Appropriate for ages 10 and up (themes include death, birth).

Dance Party: Tal National du Niger w/ Outcalls
8PM – 10:30PM
Creative Alliance
3134 Eastern Ave, Baltimore
By the time Tal National reached international acclaim with 2013’s ‘Kaani’, the band’s first release outside of Niger, they had spent more than a decade crisscrossing their native country, playing epic five-hour sets, seven days a week, selling their CDs on street corners and roundabouts. In the process, they became Niger’s most popular band, with songs constantly blasting on national TV and cell phones everywhere. After listing ‘Kaani’ as its top 10 albums of 2013, The New York Times wrote that “the music keeps leaping ahead with one surprise after another: guitar parts that align and diverge and reconfigure, drumming that pounces on offbeats. The patterns are crisp, complex and tireless”.

The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare
Mar 9 – April 7
Chesapeake Shakespeare Company
