Things to do in Baltimore this week 3/4/19

I’m taking it easy this week. My household has been down with the sickness so we need some time to recover. Hopefully I’ll be well enough for Fat Tuesday / Dope IPA Release at Wet City. The menu looks amazing, I love Mardi Gras food. On Thursday I want to stop by Love Thy Self at Maryland Art Place. I’ve seen some photos of the exhibit but I really need to see it for myself. And that’s it for my weekly plans, other than lots and lots of naps. Please go out and have lots of fun for me.

Pygmalion – Spotlighters
Feb 15-Mar 10, Fri & Sat 8PM – 10:30PM. Sun 2PM – 4:30PM
Spotlighters Theatre
817 Saint Paul St, Baltimore
The sparkling wit and biting humor of Shaw’s script has made Pygmalion into a classic which has endured for over a century, still speaking to us about the false constructs of social class and wowing us with a portrayal of a strong woman who overcomes the conventions of her time. Eliza Doolittle, an intelligent, but poor woman who sells flowers . . . crosses paths with Henry Higgins, a boorish, insensitive, but brilliant linguist who studies phonetics. He realizes we are all equal under the skin and that social class is a matter of skilled behavior. What starts as a phonetic experiment becomes a social experiment. As these two headstrong people spar, we follow Eliza through to her emotional and financial independence, as Eliza herself realizes she was already a lady.

Cohesion Theatre Company’s monstrous fifth season will kick off this winter with the Baltimore Premiere of Robert Kauzlaric’s Frankenstein. The play will heavily feature the use of puppetry as Victoria Frankenstein mourns the death of her father and constructs a monster in his place, a monster that begins to consume her life. Through the Monster puppet and Kauzlaric’s rich script, this production explores the themes of loss, grief, and despair through the lens of Shelley’s original story.

When Improv Met Standup!
8PM – 9PM
The BIG Theater
1727 North Charles Street, Baltimore
It’s like When Harry Met Sally, minus Meg Ryan. Earlier this month, several brave stand-ups showcased their comedy chops at our open mic. Now, a few of those stand-ups have been asked to share a car ride from Chicago to New York, wait, no, to present thier jokes a second time. This time, improvisers will expand on those jokes, embarrassing life experiences, and generally absurd observations to create a night so fun, it’ll be difficult for improv and stand-up to remain strictly platonic friends. With guest host Ian Salyers! Baltimore Improv Group offers free comedy shows every night of the week. But please reserve so we know you’re coming.
