Things to do in Baltimore this week 3/18/19

I am so excited for Spring weather! I’m fully recovered from being sick and adjusting to the time change. Time to get back to it! Lots going on this week! I’m going to a cooking class at Schola on Friday night. We always have so much fun there. On Saturday I’m attending Swanktacular V: RingBling BROS by the Baltimore Rock Opera Society. BROS throws the best parties and I can’t wait to party it up with my friends. I’m almost afraid to tell you about Sunday. It’s the Second Annual Pig Parts And Pancakes Brunch at foraged eatery. First come first serve, maybe I’ll see you in line!

Monday, March 18

Walk the Murals of Station North
10AM – 10:45AM OR 11AM – 1PM
Greenmount Coffee Lab
1400 Greenmount Avenue, Baltimore

Don’t miss the electronic photo booth on the south wall in the lobby (it’s free!); a great way to commemorate your tour and the pic will be waiting in your email inbox. After guests have checked in, we will then walk to about 60 points of interest, seeing quite a lot of street art, but also learning the history of this often overlooked urban landscape. We will enjoy a walking a loop of about 2.5 miles with a small pit stop towards the end for refreshment before heading back to open works. On this walk, we will enjoy the alleyways, parks, and farms of the often underrated, but constantly surprising revitalized neighborhood of Station North Arts & Entertainment District. Locals and travelers alike will enjoy this very instagrammable look at a gem of a neighborhood. Depending on the size of the group and speed of walking the time for finishing might be slightly later. There are periodical trivia questions and easter eggs hidden along the way – be ready to get competitive and rewarded with candy!

But Bombino would like us to take a closer look and think again.

In the Stacks: Part 4
6:30PM – 7:30PM
In the Stacks
17 E Mt Vernon Place, Baltimore
What do Batman, Charlie Chaplin, Cirque du Soleil, Pablo Picasso, Langston Hughes, and Claude Debussy have in common? They all took inspiration from one figure. This performance will explore the enduring legacy of the Pierrot– a pantomime character that has been the inspiration for numerous works of literature, film, music, and art since its debut in 17th century Italy. Blurring the line between comedy and tragedy, this multimedia performance will provide an opportunity to discover why the Pierrot– stubbornly hopeful in the face of constant misfortune — has continued to resonate with people for over 400 years. The centerpiece of the program will be Arnold Schönberg’s eerily ethereal masterpiece “Pierrot Lunaire” (Moonstruck Pierrot) performed by Balance Campaign. Offsetting Schönberg’s macabre take on the character will be a satirical interpretation by silent film pioneer Charlie Chaplin, shown on a large screen and accompanied by live ragtime music. Come experience a moonstruck evening in one of the most awe inspiring rooms in the world! Doors will open at 6pm, with the first 200 guests admitted. No tickets required– entry is free with a $10 suggested donation. This performance contains themes that may be unsuitable for those under 13.
