Things to do in Baltimore this week 10/21/19

So many fun fall and Halloween activities to choose from this week! The weekend is before Halloween is basically the unofficial celebration of Halloween. Go to Fells Point and people watch, it’s the best. On Tuesday I’m going to A Grecian Culinary Experience at Ouzo Bay with The Wine and Food Society of Baltimore. It’s a private members only event but feel free to message the society to see about joining! On Thursday I’m finally able to attend Chicken & Champagne 3.0 at Chez Hugo Bistro. The third time truly is the charm. After that I’m headed to see August Wilson’s RADIO GOLF at Everyman Theatre. There is a ton of great theatre this week and also lots of spooky things to do! I’m headed to DC for a getaway weekend so please have lots of Baltimore fun for me!

Here, where the condors fly and not a vine in sight, Bousquet discovered his dream terroir, an ideal location in which to nurture organically-grown wines. In this modern day riff on The Scarlet Letter, Hester, a young, homeless mother of five, must find a way to provide and protect for her children while living on the streets. While Hester’s children fill her life with joy — providing loving comedy in a harsh world of poverty — everyone else in her life takes everything they can. A parable of injustice and cruelty, this play stares into a story that the world all too often looks away from.

A Shayna Maidel by Barbara Lebow
Oct 18 – Nov 3, Fri & sat 8PM, Sun 2PM
Strand Theater Company
5426 Harford Rd. Baltimore
The setting of the play is the stylish Manhattan apartment of Rose Weiss, the time 1946. Although born in Poland, Rose, now in her 20s, came to the United States with her father, Mordechai, at the age of four and is now completely “Americanized.” The plan had been for Rose’s mother and sister to join the others, but the sister fell ill with scarlet fever, the mother stayed on to care for her, and soon the rise of the Nazis cut off their escape. Their ordeal in the concentration camps, which only the sister survived, has brought a burden of guilt to the aging Mordechai and deeply mixed feelings as he awaits the arrival of his elder daughter, Lusia, who has, at last, found her way to America. With her halting English and old world ways Lusia is a striking contrast to Rose, who is somewhat embarrassed by her rediscovered sister’s presence, and fearful that it will threaten her own hard-won independence. Distraught, and concerned that she may never be reunited with her young husband, Lusia embraces a series of memories and fantasies which make real the joys and horrors of her life before the war, from which her father and sister were spared. But when Mordechai gives Rose a letter from her mother—a letter left many years earlier with a non-Jewish Polish friend—a “proof” of family is somehow restored, and old barriers and griefs give way to a renewed sense of hope and mutual dependence—and the conviction that a better future may yet arise from the bitter ashes of the troubled past.

Hey I just wanted to say thank you for this blog. I check it every Monday and it’s given me and my husband some awesome events to try and discover. We found gin and jokes (which we’ve gone to at least 10 times since) hops and vines and a few other events that we now go to all the time through you. I appreciate this blog so much I try and click an ad every time I visit hoping you get at least some part of the Adsense money lol. Keep up the great work!
