In 2016-17, we’ve decided to resume the series and have partnered with six artist-run platforms including galleries, spaces, collectives, and festivals. All lectures are free and held at the Baltimore School for the Arts, located at 712 Cathedral Street. The original 1960 cover is notable for the inclusion of Strayhorn’s name and picture along with Ellington’s. Led by jazz educator / trombonist Chales Funn, this jazz ensemble, organized in 1995, performs the music of composers Duke Ellington, William Thomas “Billy” Strayhorn, William “Count” Basie, Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire and others. Tickets: $12 in advance/$15 at door/$10 students/$5 Dunbar students. Finding Knox is a brand new program focusing on prevention and resolution of stolen pets in Baltimore. We started this program after our beloved family member, Equinox, was stolen from our home during the day on November 16th, 2016. Thousands of community members shared on social media, the Baltimore Police force and local media stations joined in the search and our local SPCA focused efforts on bringing Knox home. The sheer force behind the effort brought Knox back to us in just over 36 hours. We are beyond grateful for the support and want nothing more than to help other people who are faced with the same devastating situation. We have started this organization to raise awareness about dog theft in Baltimore and to help reunite pets with their families.

R. House
301 W 29th St, Baltimore
Come & dye a beautiful, versatile silk piece in the alluring & illustrious indigo. It can act as your newest statement scarf or a delicate wall hanging. We will provide everything you need including the fabric, tools to make marks on the fabric, and of course, the indigo. Just bring yourself & your creativity. Working with natural colors from the earth is very important to us at Wax & Wane Fiber for both ecological stewardship and also the artistry inherent in the process. Never knowing exactly what a bath of plant-derived dyes will reveal is always a great joy to us and to others when we are teaching these techniques. There is a childlike sense of wonder when people see for the first time how pH changes alter the colors of sappanwood or when the neon green of indigo breathes its way into deep midnight. It’s those moments we live for. We are excited to continue this journey in the natural world and to see all the places it can take us.

Written and performed by Ron Kipling Williams, it is a journey about an awkward black youth living in middle class Washington, DC; his discovery of alternative and punk rock music, independent radio and social justice; his tumultuous familial relationships; the conflicts between his role within the race and class system and his staunch resistance to it; and his emergence as a free thinking human in a hegemonic American society. Dreadlocks, Rock ‘n Roll & Human Rights is a thought-provoking tale of a man who struggles against society’s intolerance and fights to create a world of acceptance.

The scent of balsam fir and hemlock, pines and cedars are among the closest to my heart, lifting the spirit from the forest floor to the highest branches fanning across the bright winter sky. In this workshop, we’ll engage in a guided aromatic exploration of over a dozen unique conifer oils — and you’ll make & take home your own forest mist to strengthen the winter spirit and bring The scent of the forest indoors, whether or not you have a christmas tree in your home. Priya Means Love is a one-woman business, started by me, Priya, after chronic illness forced me to leave my post-graduate studies in math. I found delight and inspiration in playing with these beautiful ingredients, in discovering herbalism, and in becoming a part of the indie crafting scene in Toronto, where Priya Means Love started — and in the process, I created products that eased my chemical sensitivities and made my skin and hair happier than ever, all using only radically all-natural, responsibly grown ingredients that I was proud to buy.
