Who spent gave all of their money to Amazon last week? This girl! No regrets here as I watch my Roomba do my least favorite chore. Another awesome week in Baltimore is upon us! I’m so excited for Artscape this year! It really captures of the eclectic nature or Baltimore. I especially enjoy the live music, afterparties, and activities that involve air conditioning. The Charmery is celebrating its birthday this week with some special flavors you do not want to miss. If you are bored this week you only have yourself to blame.
FYI: Running through the end of July is the Maryland 2000. Beginning July 1st through July 31st, BAWA Shelters along with the following animal shelters in Maryland will be waiving adoption fees for felines with the collective goal of finding homes for at least 2,000 unwanted cats and kittens across the state.

Writers LIVE: Steven Levingston, Kennedy and King
6:30PM – 8PM
Enoch Pratt Free Library
400 Cathedral St, Baltimore
On July 11, 1963, President John F. Kennedy addressed the nation, speaking passionately about civil rights as a moral issue and proposing new legislation that would ensure equal treatment for all Americans. It had taken Kennedy nearly three years to find his voice on civil rights; he had resisted taking a firm stand, preferring to concentrate on other issues such as the economy and foreign affairs. But, despite enormous obstacles, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. persisted in pricking the president’s conscience by word and deed and proved instrumental in leading Kennedy toward his transformation. In Kennedy and King, Steven Levingston weaves the gripping and insightful tale of the contentious but ultimately revolutionary relationship between two of the 20th century’s greatest leaders. The Ivy Bookshop will have copies of the author’s book on sale at a booksigning following the program.

The Art of Ramadan: A Muslim American art showcase is back again! The showcase will be held on July 21-22, 2017, during Artscape, America’s largest free arts festival held in Baltimore, Maryland. The show will include an opening reception, visual art exhibits, live performances, panel discussions, and an art market. It is free and open to the public! The idea for the Art of Ramadan was born in 2013, in an attempt to celebrate the way Ramadan, and Islam more broadly, inspire creative expression. This year, we hope to use the show as a grassroots response to Islamophobia. Muslim American artists defy national, cultural, and religious stereotypes through their diverse identities and diverse artistic expressions. We seek to celebrate the role that art and artists play in inspiring creative resistance.

In the Cook County Jail, Roxie meets her hero, the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly. When both acquire the same lawyer, the greedy and lustful superstar, Billy Flynn, tensions come to a head as they vie for the spotlight, though instead of onstage, they’re mugging for the flashbulb of the newspaper reporters.
