Well friends, this first official day of fall is this Friday.  Summer is really over.  I’m a prisoner in my own home thanks to fall allergies.  I went outside for 45 minutes yesterday and boy did I pay for that.  Think of me in my house clinging to my air purifier and and a box of kleenex while you are busy doing all of these fun outdoor activities this week.  I do plan to pull myself together and go to Bookmaker’s 3rd Birthday on Wednesday.  Because whiskey and allergy medicine make a great combination, right?  There is also no way I am missing the Baltimore Book Festival or Mr. Trash Wheel’s Friendversary Party.  Wish me luck!

They have cats riding skateboards, jumping through hoops, and Alley, our rising star, has even leapt into the Guinness Book of World Records, holding the record for the longest cat jump!

The creatures they discover there will make them question their free will… and fear for their lives.
The show will be performed for four weekends at the beautiful historic Zion Lutheran Church in downtown Baltimore. The Terrible Secret of Lunastus is the third original rock opera written and performed by the Baltimore Rock Opera Society. It originally debuted in 2011 as a part of the BROS Double Feature at the Autograph Playhouse on 25th Street. Hopefully by this point those of you who saw the 2011 show will have forgotten what Lunastus’ terrible secret was!

The Project is an all-comedy organization that values all facets of performance, and we’re looking for every type of talent to add to our community.
Auditions will be held on Saturday from 12-3 PM in two blocks: 12-1:30 or 1:30-3. In honor of Thelonious Monk’s 100th birthday, CSJQ presents a special show devoted to his marvelous music. Known as one of jazz’s true eccentrics, Monk was, more importantly, one of the greatest composers in jazz history. His oeuvre includes such standards as “‘Round Midnight” and “Well, You Needn’t,” and runs the gamut from simple tunes such as “Blue Monk” to challenging compositions like “Trinkle Tinkle.” But even his most somber pieces are full of wit and humor.
In “Monk at 100” CSJQ captures Monk’s many moods. The band will offer a variety of tempos and textures ranging from bass/sax duos, to trio settings, to vocals with the full quartet. Between the tunes, bandleader Mark Osteen tells entertaining and informative stories about Monk’s life and work.

Art House Theater Day: Titicut Follies (50th Anniversary)

Frederick Wiseman’s groundbreaking and controversial 1967 documentary, TITICUT FOLLIES, was filmed at the Bridgewater State Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Massachusetts. Wiseman’s landmark documentary provides a raw and candid perspective on the institutionalization of inmates in the United States. Now, 50 years after the release of the film, a 4K scan from the original 16mm negative of the film is available in DCP for re-release. The film is followed by a pre-recorded 10 – 15 minute chat between director Frederick Wiseman and Wes Anderson.
This screening is a part of Art House Theater Day. Art House Theater Day celebrates the art house theater and the cultural role it plays in a community. It is a day to recognize the year-round contributions of film and filmmakers, patrons, projectionists, and staff, and the brick and mortar theaters that are passionately dedicated to providing access to the best cinematic experience.
