It’s a slow week compared the insanity last week of Charm City Fringe Festival. I saw a total of 8 different productions. I need a nap. This week H.T. Darling’s Incredible Musaeum returns to the Peale Center Thursdays-Sundays Nov. 16 – Dec 17 and I am so excited! It truly is an experience so don’t miss out. Thanksgiving is almost here. I’m sure more of us consider this “gird your loins” week; preparing for family to descend upon you or your trek to visit family. It gets crazy after this week until New Year’s so take care.

In the spirit of thankfulness, theme of the season, shout out to that guy who interrupted Amanda and I (Maria) when we were eating a fancy relish tray and drinking old fashions at Parts & Labor before last month’s Writers & Words to tell us that he used to party with John Waters back in the day, when he overheard us talking about his book, Carsick. He did not elaborate, and I regret not asking him to, but we did have to go make a reading happen. Thank you, random stranger, for sharing, for respectfully interrupting, and for existing. May you party with John Waters evermore. Baltimore is a little weird, as we all know and love, and this month at Writers & Words we have the pleasure of welcoming a few out of towners to our fair city, as well as some lovely locals. Come out and hear our awesome assortment of readers and as always, enjoy the delights our friends at Charmington’s have to offer.

CENSORED is an exhibition that gives the public an opportunity to view painting, sculpture, prints and photography that have created a heightened sense of tension and challenge to the moral conscience of those individuals and groups who are at odds with the political, social, racial, historical, gender imagery commissioned or inspired by artists in the City of Baltimore. The intensity of the conversations and dialogues often become a contest that forces the art to be removed from the public arena. The Motor House will encourage and engage the artists and the community to have open exchanges to explore the nature, intent, and future of artistic expression that is loaded with tension and conflict. The works of Paul Rucker, Stephen Towns, Lynn Harper, the Confederate and Christoper Columbus monuments will be included in this exhibition. The Motor House Gallery is open to the public. AppalAsia
8PM – ?
An die Musik
409 N Charles St, Baltimore
“AppalAsia is one of the most innovative and musically exciting groups I have ever heard. The unusual combination of instruments creates such a joyous feeling and combines sophisticated composition with brilliant playing in a way that makes it all seem effortless. Those of us who sat and listened were all literally spell bound. Hearing the banjo played in new ways and the use of the traditional Chinese violin played with stunning virtuosity with Jeff Berman’s dulcimer was just what the world needs to hear. This wasn’t cross-over or fusion. This was great music making that needs no label ,,,” — David Amram/ NERFA 2015

Joy Postell The soulful singer-songwriter uses unruly, jazz-like rhythms, fiercely sharp lyrics, and emotive energy to address issues faced by the African-American community. Her accomplished sound—and message—couldn’t be timelier.
Wendel Patrick has been referred to as “David Foster Wallace reincarnated as a sound engineer” by Urbanite Magazine and as “wildly talented” by the Baltimore Sun. Randi Withani Roberts is a local soulful singer/songwriter fresh from Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory.
