This week is packed full of fun! The Charm City Fringe Festival runs through Sunday the 12th. You have no excuse to not see at least one of the shows. They all have multiple showings across several days. I’m in the process of making my schedule to get as many shows as possible in. Most excited to see Fruit of the Sea and THEM. Last night I caught Night Watch Paradox – “Magnificent Machines & Astonishing Tales” and it is everything a Baltimore/Steampunk fanatic could dream of. She returns the next morning and this time is let in. She learns that the young woman she saw fleeing the previous evening, Pat Hingle, has been found dead. Strange things soon begin to occur. Suzy becomes ill and is put on a special diet; the school becomes infested with maggots; odd sounds abound; and Daniel, the pianist, is killed by his own dog. A bit of research indicates that the ballet school was once a witches’ coven – and as Suzy learns, still is.

Emil Guillermo, an award-winning journalist and commentator tells the little known story of one of the largest Asian American groups in the country through his often comic personal tale of growing up as the son of a colonized Filipino, going to Harvard, working in the media and NPR. And, of course, there’s a murder. Guillermo describes his piece as “Spalding Gray meets Ferdinand Marcos,” based on actual American history where racism was often fanned by sexual jealousy. Before there was a Muslim ban, there was a Filipino ban. It’s all enough to make you go amok.
