Things to do in Baltimore this week 2/19/18

WOW! I was so excited and overwhelmed to see all the great options for fun in Baltimore this week. This is another one of those weeks where I wish I could clone myself because so many great events are all happening at the same time. In case you were wondering I did continue my theatre streak for the last week. I’m going to see Red Velvet by Lolita Chakrabarti in a couple of hours and then attempting to see Black Panther. My theatre for the coming week is A Disappearing Act in Baltimore on Friday. It’s only here for a few days so don’t miss it! I tried to see All She Must Possess on Thursday but it is sold out *sob*. A lesson learned to always buy your tickets early. Oh well, I guess I will attend Dice & Slice: Dungeons and Dragons instead. I’m such a nerd I’m also going to Adventures in the Meadhall on Sunday but Bottoms Up Bagels will be there and you know how I feel about my bagels. Like I said, plenty of options this week!

However, in light of all that has been happening and with the social fabric of America decaying right in front of our eyes it seems as if we are still experiencing another civil rights era. Come experience a compelling and provocative play depicting the supposed meeting between two of the most influential men of modern times. Jeff Stetson eloquently wrote this play in the late 80’s and although there is no proof if Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King ever had a private meeting Stetson made you believe that if they did this is how if would’ve have gone down.

Feb 14 – Mar 4
Strand Theater Company

“I want to be a different girl born on a different day-” so say the seven young girls who have been abused and neglected, and lost in the welfare system. When Carmela, a teaching artist, enters their lives, she offers the girls a chance to express themselves and reclaim their voices. That is when the real challenge begins. Count Down exposes the inherent dissonance between the child welfare system and the reality of the girls who have no choice but to spend their childhood and adolescence in its care. Count Down was the recipient of the 2009 Mid Atlantic Individual Playwriting Fellowship and Finalist for Playwrights First Award, the National Arts Club, NYC. The Strand Theater’s production of Count Down is a proud participant in the 2018 Women’s Voices Theatre Festival.
