Count Down at the Strand!
Feb 14 – Mar 4
Strand Theater Company
5426 Harford Rd., Baltimore
“I want to be a different girl born on a different day-” so say the seven young girls who have been abused and neglected, and lost in the welfare system. When Carmela, a teaching artist, enters their lives, she offers the girls a chance to express themselves and reclaim their voices. That is when the real challenge begins. Count Down exposes the inherent dissonance between the child welfare system and the reality of the girls who have no choice but to spend their childhood and adolescence in its care. Count Down was the recipient of the 2009 Mid Atlantic Individual Playwriting Fellowship and Finalist for Playwrights First Award, the National Arts Club, NYC. The Strand Theater’s production of Count Down is a proud participant in the 2018 Women’s Voices Theatre Festival.

Xylouris White w/ David Jacober
8PM – 11PM
Creative Alliance
3134 Eastern Ave, Baltimore
A passion for exploration comes naturally to Xylouris White, a ruggedly visionary duo with Cretan lute player George Xylouris and Australian drummer Jim White. For their debut album, 2014’s Goats, Xylouris White compares themselves to titular animals that wander fearlessly through rough-hewn terrain. Two years later, they show how far their horizons can reach with 2016’s expansive album Black Peak, which they named after a mountaintop in Crete. In 2018 they will release their third project, Mother, named to denote “new life”. As Xylouris puts it, “Mother is the extension of Goats and Black Peak. Three things, all part of a whole. Goats are mothers, Zeus was raised on Amaltheia’s milk, Black Peak is Mother Earth… Mother Earth is the mother of everything.”

Community Readings of Peter Pan
3PM – 5PM
Single Carrot Theatre

Join Single Carrot Theatre for the first public reading of Peter Pan. Baltimore is home to a diverse LGBTQ+ community and we need your help! In order to create and maintain safe space, we ask that only those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community attend this event. Allies will be welcome to participate at other points in the process.
More about Peter Pan: This modern take on a childhood favorite will explore contemporary conversations on gender, sexuality, and performative identity and embrace queer culture. Neverland will be transformed from a distant fantasy to a modern safe-haven for those who have been rejected and devalued, a stronghold against normalcy and a place where Peter and his Lost Boys can finally be themselves.
