Pygmalion – Spotlighters
Feb 15-Mar 10, Fri & Sat 8PM – 10:30PM. Sun 2PM – 4:30PM
Spotlighters Theatre
817 Saint Paul St, Baltimore
The sparkling wit and biting humor of Shaw’s script has made Pygmalion into a classic which has endured for over a century, still speaking to us about the false constructs of social class and wowing us with a portrayal of a strong woman who overcomes the conventions of her time. Eliza Doolittle, an intelligent, but poor woman who sells flowers . . . crosses paths with Henry Higgins, a boorish, insensitive, but brilliant linguist who studies phonetics. He realizes we are all equal under the skin and that social class is a matter of skilled behavior. What starts as a phonetic experiment becomes a social experiment. As these two headstrong people spar, we follow Eliza through to her emotional and financial independence, as Eliza herself realizes she was already a lady.

Cohesion Theatre Company
923 S. East Avenue, Baltimore
Cohesion Theatre Company’s monstrous fifth season will kick off this winter with the Baltimore Premiere of Robert Kauzlaric’s Frankenstein. This adaptation of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s novel transforms the classic horror tale from a story of a man and his creation, to one of a grieving woman reinventing her father. The play will heavily feature the use of puppetry as Victoria Frankenstein mourns the death of her father and constructs a monster in his place, a monster that begins to consume her life. Through the Monster puppet and Kauzlaric’s rich script, this production explores the themes of loss, grief, and despair through the lens of Shelley’s original story.

The Peale Center
225 N Holliday St, Baltimore
The Ancient Greek term NOSTOS refers to those stories in which someone returns home after a long journey filled with perilous obstacles, often by sea, in the hopes of reclaiming what was once their own. NOSTOS: A Dreambaby Cabaret is a homecoming show produced by Dreambaby, Baltimore’s favorite (and only) witch cabaret musician. In addition to Dreambaby, NOSTOS features a cast of brilliant performers: one-of-a-kind comedy duo OLGA, eminently talented dancer Talbolt Johnson, and ingenious magician David London. Each of these artists have, in one way or another, been present during formative moments in Dreambaby’s career as a musician and performance artist prior to moving away from Baltimore for two and a half adventurous, challenging years. As always, Dreambaby will serve as the MC and send you off with a closing performance.

Passing through Southeast where you hear some Choro, a very classic sophisticated music originated in Rio de Janeiro in the 1870’s. Drive All Night
2PM – 5PM
AREA 405
405 E Oliver St, Baltimore
The sixth of eight events of the “Beyond Beautiful: One Thousand Love letters” exhibition at Maryland Art Place and Area 405, “Drive All Night” is an event about the distances we travel and the hurdles we overcome to assure love is transcendent: physical and emotional separation may challenge bonds, but we see time and again love still wins. Clarinda Harriss offers intimate poetry on love’s presence despite dementia, and others share testimonials of fortitude and overcoming. The event includes a spotlight on a painting by Exsul Van Helden included in the exhibition on the human cost of war and exile, and a sharing from the International Rescue Committee of Baltimore on their work reuniting loved ones, and keeping love alive despite separation. Singer Simone Speed performs as accompaniment to the stories. The 2:00-3:30pm reception period for this opening event is graced with jazz keyboardist George Spicka, and light fare provided by The Classic Catering People.
