Hi friends! I’ve gotten over the laziness from the beach and have a packed schedule this week. So many fun events going on! On Wednesday I’m attending Gal Pal Book Club at Noona’s hosted by Discovercharmcity! It’s supporting a good cause and the #bmoregalpal events are always a blast. On Thursday I’m learning more about Baltimore’s secondhand shopping scene at Style Sustainably with Stylishly Taylored. Friday and the rest of the weekend will be consumed by all of the Artscape shenanigans so hopefully the weather won’t be too hot!

8 Short Plays
July 5- 21, Fri – Sun 8PM – 9:30PM
Mercury Theater
1823 North Charles Street, Baltimore
Theresa Columbus is collaborating with Sarah Jacklin to produce and direct “8 Short Plays.” The central idea of the piece is that the audience is watching a surreal vaudevillian variety show: as varied as performance art to classic song n’ dance numbers, or experimental theater to Sunday morning comics. Often poetry in dialogue, the plot is held together with a wild emotional logic. The ensemble brings to life passionate stories in which characters explore their relationships to art, their peers, and themselves. We watch the the inner-lives of the performers unfold as they fumble towards intimacy, embarrassment, and wonder. In the process, traditional forms are celebrated, taken apart, and reinvented. “8 Short Plays” will be showing at the Mercury Theater starting on July 5th & ending on July 21st, on Friday through Sunday nights, showtime 8PM. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite or at the door for $15 or more or pay what you can.

The Story of Us Staged Reading
8PM – 10PM
The Strand Theatre
5426 Harford Road
The Story of Us is a current, yet timeless tale of love, heartbreak, making hard decisions, closure or lack thereof, and… moving on. Jesse and Davis are from two different worlds. Jesse Samson is your average, middle-class Joe with dreams of getting out and Davis Keating is from the upper echelons of society with dreams of breaking free. The two happen to meet and click but… sometimes fate has other plans. For as much as these two love each other, they seem to be star-crossed, for no particular reason aside from their own personal insecurities and individual journeys. Along with their two friends Laura and Ellis, who have their own subplot of a budding relationship, and obstacles such as Miranda Keating, Davis’ overbearing, snooty mother who loves her son with all her heart and really only wants what’s best for him, and Katherine, Davis’ lifelong friend who, through the years, has developed a perennial love for him, the question is… will love be enough for these two young men to make it through? Will they overcome the obstacles and their own hang-ups to be together? The Story of Us demonstrates the fact that, in real life, sometimes we’re not given a happy ending or a sad ending but through it all… we’re gonna be OK as we journey on. Free (but donations for continued development are very much appreciated!)
Anat Fort Trio: Celebrating 20 Years with New CD, Colour
8PM & 9:30PM
An die Musik
409 N Charles St, Baltimore
It all started out with two gigs at the old Deanna’s on Rivington Street and some rehearsals in an old basement on the lower east side, across from Hells Angels. A collaboration of an Israeli pianist-composer, an American bassist and a German drummer— wait this is not a joke…it grew to be one of the most important projects in each of our lives. Twenty years later, after two recordings for ECM Records that garnered great responses and many, many gigs worldwide, we gather again to celebrate with a new CD, on Sunnyside Records, “Colour”. We did all the work on this one ourselves. We recorded it, produced it, chose the cover art, told our stories in the booklet. For the first time in a while, this was all ours. And we believe you can hear it in the music, too.

8 Short Plays
July 5 – 21, Fri – Sun 8PM – 9:30PM
