Things to do in Baltimore this week 12/16/19

Hi friends! December is kicking my butt. This post is coming to you after many brunch drinks at the DiscoverCharmCity Gal Pal Christmas Party. I can’t believe Christmas is almost here. I need an extra week to prepare. I’m trying to keep it kind of lowkey this week so I can get my life in order. On Thursday I’m going to a wine tasting at The French Paradox Wines. Should be a good time and a great opportunity to buy some last minute beverage gifts. On Friday I’m getting my hair done, very important. On Saturday I’m going to The Feast of the Seven Fishes at Schola. One of my favorite holiday traditions. On Sunday I’m off to Georgia for Christmas with the inlaws. Please have an awesome Baltimore Christmas for me!

I’ve been using Rent the Runway UNLIMITED for all my holiday parties and work this month! It’s fun having something different to wear for every event! If you want to give it a try, Click Here!

Mobtown Holiday Potluck/Edible Pun Party
7PM – 1AM
Mobtown Ballroom
861 Washington Blvd, Baltimore
It’s that time of year when we want to be cozy, eat delicious food, and be around good people. So, come on out to celebrate on Monday, December 16th, before our regular Monday night dance. Bring a dish to share and come as early as you can. The twist: we will have a contest for the best food pun (extra points for dance/music puns). This is a twist on traditional Edible Book Parties. Examples of food puns include: Tequila Mockingbird (that’s a book one, obv), Don’t Go Bacon My Heart, etc. The punniest chef will be chosen and given a free drink. Regular admission fees apply: $7, $10 with the drop in lesson (at 8pm).
-You do not have to make your food a pun. The staff of the Mobtown Ballroom understands this, as we would sooner not cook than try to come up with something clever. Also, good food is better than a good pun.
-NO DRINKS. We can’t do this, due to our liquor license. We’ve got plenty, though.
-Please list the ingredients so that people with allergies and dietary restrictions know what they can and can’t eat.
-Please, for the love of all that is holy, help us keep this relatively clean. You can bring whatever you want, but keep in mind that chicken wings or crumbly tacos are hard to transport from plate to mouth without leaving horrific destruction in its wake.

PizzaQuest: Baltimore – Session 1
5:30PM – 10PM
PizzaQuest’s kickoff session in Baltimore! This session will be Canton/Fells Point centric and target 3 heavy weights in the city. The scene: it’s everyone pay for themselves but bring cash if you want to go in on a pie with someone (much easier) since none of the joints are slice shops. Bartender’s and Rad’s may be pretty busy since they are bars, so, who knows, the whole plan could go to pieces…but the pies are worth it. The best bet is to (share) Ubers from spot to spot given the parking scene. I’m starting my Uber journey from Blue Pit BBQ in Hampden and will be getting one at 5:15PM if anyone wants to share + I’m ending back there. Here’s the loose agenda:
6PM-6:45PM: Matthew’s Pizza
7PM-8PM: Bartender’s
8:15PM-9:30PM: Johnny Rad’s

The Foreigner – Spotlighters Theatre
Dec 13 – Jan 20, Fri & Sat 8PM, Sun 2PM, Plus Dec 19 $10
Spotlighters Theatre
817 Saint Paul St, Baltimore
The Foreigner is a fun, two-act comedy by American playwright Larry Shue. The story takes place in a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County, Georgia where two Englishmen, Froggy and Charlie, arrive as guests. The shy Charlie agreed to accompany Froggy on the trip after his sick wife begged him to go. When people at the lodge try to talk to Charlie, however, he remains silent: he is terribly shy, depressed about his wife’s illness, and cannot find the words to reply. Froggy claims that Charlie cannot talk because he is a “foreigner” from an exotic country, and does not understand English. Taking the explanation that he’s a non-English speaker as fact, the lodge’s guests quickly begin revealing their secrets, and Charlie soon discovers scandals amongst some of the residents of the lodge. The Foreigner – Spotlighters Theatre
Dec 13 – Jan 20, Fri & Sat 8PM, Sun 2PM
Set against a backdrop of white supremacy and the KKK, who work to take control of the lodge and remove the “Foreigner” this comedy allows us to confront the xenophobia and racism still present today.
