POP: Who Shot Andy Warhol?
Jan 16 – Feb 1, Thurs – Sat 8PM
StillPointe Theatre
1915 Maryland Ave. Baltimore
Join Stillpointe Theatre as we launch our new performance venue with this radical, new, Baltimore Premiere piece of Musical Theatre “POP”: WHO SHOT ANDY WARHOL? Written by the young newcomers Maggie-Kate Coleman (book and lyrics) and Anna K. Jacobs (music), “Pop!” does its energetic best to simulate the freewheeling fun of the Factory while positioning the speed queens and superstars within the tidy frame of a musical comedy. Cleverly conceived, vividly performed and professionally put together, it has moments of dizzy brilliance. But ultimately and probably inevitably, “Pop!” comes across as canned camp, as have so many other attempts to replay the crazy late-1960s groove on stage and film. In trying to show both the madcap excesses and the psychic cost of Warhol freakdom, the show turns these fabled figures into alternately cute and cranky cartoons. This Production is 80 minutes long with no intermission. Street Parking, and a “pay to park” parking lot is located directly across from the Theatre. Doors open at 7:30pm.

Electro-Kurdish Wedding Music: Tufan Derince w/ Synthscape
8PM – 11PM
Creative Alliance
3134 Eastern Ave, Baltimore
Tufan Derince, at the crest of a wave of young Kurdish musicians who have swept over the corridor linking Diyarbakır—the capital of Kurdish culture in Southeast Turkey—with urban centers of Kurdish migration along the Eastern Mediterranean, has performed at hundreds of weddings across Turkey. Recently relocated to the Netherlands he has already made a major impact on Kurdish music scenes in Europe, collaborating with refugee Kurdish musicians from Syria, creating a novel blend of electronic pop and heavy electrified Kurdish folk music. Having been outlawed for more than a decade, Kurdish music, culture, and language was gradually decriminalized in Turkey through the 1990s. An explosion of creativity resulted in new interpretations of traditional Kurdish folk music central to Kurdish community life and cultural identity. The most influential new genre is called ağır delilo (slow, heavy delilo—a Kurdish folk dance) or in a more, pure Kurdish expression—granî (slow and heavy), characterized by heavily distorted elektrobağlama—an electrified long necked lute, which bridges the sonic aesthetics of the shrill reed pipe traditionally used to accompany folk dances with hard rock sounds.

When you pick up your cookbook from the store you will draw a recipe card from a “hat.” Each club member will cook the dish indicated on their card, then prepare the dish and bring it to our meeting to share with the other members at the next monthly meet-up. This ensures we will get a really diverse sampling of dishes from the book; you are welcome to swap recipes with other members. We will also throw a few curveballs into the mix–a few of the books will be non-fiction essays, culinary history, and biography. These books will have meals prepared by Chef Sylva which are inspired by the book.

Elvis’ Birthday Fight Club 10th Anniversary
Fri 7:30 PM and 10PM, Sat 7PM and 9:30PM
Creative Alliance
3134 Eastern Ave, Baltimore
“Elvis” and Kittie Glitter take care of business as hosts of this hilarious underground fight club. In seven elaborately staged rounds, this action-packed, punch-drunk evening offers flim-flam fisticuffs, cartoon-like violence, below-the-belt comedy, and hot tah-tahs. Between bouts burlesque talents will keep the audience “all shook up.” The 2020 Fight Roster is a closely guarded secret, and trying to anticipate what the demented writer’s team will come up with each year is half the fun. The punch-drunk logic behind Elvis’ Birthday Fight Club begins with “Commodious,” the toilet of Graceland, attempting to fulfill his King’s dying wish. While Elvis probably said he wanted a “nightclub,” Commodious believes he wanted a “fight club.” So, with the limited resources of a toilet, he annually celebrates The King’s birthday with back alley fisticuffs and hot tah-tahs. Commodious has enlisted the best “Elvis” he could afford as well as a hot co-host, Kittie Glitter to oversee this subversive, surreal, and silly annual brawl honoring The King of Rock N Roll.

Love & Information by Caryl Churchill at FPCT
Jan 10 – Feb 2, Fri & Sat 8PM, Sun 2PM
Fells Point Corner Theatre
251 S Ann St, Baltimore
Fells Point Corner Theatre brings one of Caryl Chuchill’s most ambitious works to its stage: Love and Information. A fast paced collage of short scenes, the ensemble cast searches for meaning in a world of broken communication and constantly changing technology. Each scene deals with the various ways we receive and give information in contemporary society, but still manages to capture familiar and human moments of confusion, deep forlorn, and intense joy; moments that disappear before we even realize it. Fandom and torture, sex and terror, parenthood and loss, Churchill’s kaleidoscope of contemporary life is an enjoyable and gripping experience that will leave audiences delightfully brimming with existential dread!

TRIADS: Arrangements in Site & Sound—Performance #1
7:30PM – 9PM
Clifton Park Mansion House
2701 Saint Lo Dr, Baltimore
TRIADS: Arrangements in Site & Sound explores the relationships between performances of classical music, physical sites, and the communities surrounding them. This performance series, film, and art installation premieres a newly commissioned work by composer Ledah Finck. Inspired by the embedded histories and acoustic languages of three separate locations—Clifton Mansion, B. Willow, and NomuNomu.—different elements of Finck’s composition will be performed at each of these sites over the course of three nights. The project will culminate in a film installation, by Rachel Schmidt, at In/29 (In Progress) that assembles these fragments and presents the piece in its entirety. Performed and presented in collaboration with Bergamot Quartet, Pants Trio, and Mind on Fire, this project uses classical music as a case study to question how the built environment implicates bodies and reinforces traditional hierarchies. Ultimately, TRIADS: Arrangements in Site & Sound subverts traditional methods of performance and consumption by breaking down the whole, scattering its components across space and time, and then reconstructing it through site-specific sound recordings and visual explorations.
