Things to do in Baltimore this week 3/2/20

Hi friends! This week is going to be crazzzzzzzzy! So much goodness to experience. On Thursday I’m going to the Personal Cellar Dinner with The Wine and Food Society of Baltimore at L’Hirondelle Club. It’s members only but contact the IWFS to become a member. On Friday it is the world premiere of Queens Girl: Black in the Green Mountains at Everyman Theatre and I am so darn excited. I can’t want to see what happens to Queens Girl next! On Saturday I’m going to see The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. It’s going to be HI-larious. Sunday is the hard day because there is so much going on. I have tickets for 9th Annual Rye’s Up! at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Baltimore and the 2020 Mac & Cheese Cook-Off to Benefit Moveable Feast at Peabody Heights Brewery. Somehow I’m going to attend them both but it’s going to be sooooo much food. I will have to work extra hard at Movement Lab this weekend.

Live Episode w/ Brendan Canty (Fugazi) & Microkingdom
8PM – 11PM
Fadensonnen
3 W. 23rd St., Baltimore
Essential Tremors is a podcast in which musicians and other creators talk about the songs that shaped who they are. Distributed by NPR via WYPR, and produced by Lee Gardner and Matthew Byars. This will be a live episode taping with Brendan Canty (Fugazi, The Messthetics), followed by music by Microkingdom. Fugazi ranks as one of the bands that not only set a high bar musically for American post-punk and indie bands of the late 80’s, 90’s and into the 21st century, but also morally, by insisting on charging low prices for their releases and five dollars, (whenever possible), for their live shows. They ran straight against the trend of bands from the underground signing to major labels, burning out and imploding by creating challenging albums and playing all-ages shows and showing that punk ideals can be carried forward into adulthood.

She has sung on soundtracks of movies she’s never seen (Frozen, Godzilla, others) and radio spots she’s never heard. Kristen composes sacred and secular music for choirs, including multiple collaborations with artist Lita Albuquerque in Los Angeles and for the 2018 Desert X biennial in the Coachella Valley. Her life is a graceful fumble of near-constant improvising. Kristen directs the Community Chorus of Peabody, where she gets to share her passion for the healing potentials and pleasures of singing.

Westminster Hall and Burying Ground
Baltimore, Maryland

The burial ground predates the church, which was built on arches above the gravesites, so that the graveyard and its tombstones lie both underneath and around the building. We bet you will also recognize more than a few Baltimore street names as we walk among the patriots and civic leaders buried at Westminster including Calhoun, Hollins, Gilmore, and Bentalou. All told, the compact cemetery is the final resting place for over 1,000 individuals. We can’t wait to see you “Where Baltimore’s History Rests in Peace!”
