Things to do in Baltimore this week 4/17/17

Happy Easter!  I finished this yesterday and set it up to automatically post.  Why?  Because I am out enjoying the end of my restaurant fast aka. chowing down at Petit Louis Bistro for Easter.  SO MUCH FUN STUFF THIS WEEK!  The nice weather really puts me in a good mood.  I want to spend all of my time outside, but not like woodsy things; I prefer to enjoy nature at an outdoor bar or a music festival.  Restaurants and bars are pulling out their patio seating and live music is being played outdoors, ah, Spring.  I plan to partake of it all, you should too!

Quincy Jones (Comedian)
8PM – 11PM
Creative Alliance
3134 Eastern Ave, Baltimore
A lot of people say they’ll work until they drop. Quincy Jones is doing it. The stand-up comic (no relation to the music mogul who has the same name) was told over a year ago that he only had one year to live. He was doing gigs nightly, but the diagnosis forced him to double-down on his craft. Jones subsequently appeared on the Ellen Degeneres’ Show, who began to advocate for him to get a comedy special. HBO came on board and this past year they debuted Quincy Jones: Burning the Light, a hilarious and inspirational hour long special. Now, over a year after he was given terminal diagnosis, he is still gigging between treatments and making audiences laugh. Quincy is an inspiration and funny as hell.

Holy Underground Presents: Shana Falana & Water
8PM – 11:45PM
Holy Underground
2021 Maryland Ave, Baltimore
Veteran NY psych-pop act Shana Falana just released her new LP Here Comes The Waves, her 2nd with Team Love Records. Emerging from New York’s vast drone/psych scene, Shana combines live looping of reverb-drenched vocals and guitar with tribal drums and stunning visual projections. Her live experience has often been described as transcendental.
The post-rock duo Water’s lush and thunderous live show does more with two musicians onstage than most bands two or three times their size. With Dan Cohan switching between drums and guitar and James Klink juggling guitar and keyboards, the duo pile on layers of loops and overlapping tangles of melody and polyrhythms, building each song up and tearing it back down in unexpected ways.

7PM – 11PM
Metro Gallery

Rock ’n’ roll aficionados need no introduction to pop songwriter Tommy Keene and pioneer punk guitarist Ivan Julian. However, what even the most dedicated listener might not know is these two Washington D.C.-area natives need no introduction to each other.
