Happy Mother’s Day! Finally a day of decent weather. I’m embarrassed to even think about how tall our grass has gotten this week because of all the rain. It ends today! We hit up the JFX Farmer’s Market this morning for some tasty goodies and to stock up on all our garden starters. I’ll be outside potting my herbs as soon as I finish typing this. This is going to be a busy week in Baltimore. The city will be packed full of graduation celebrations and Preakness attendees. I wouldn’t bother trying to drive or park at all. Public transportation is your best friend this week. I’m undecided about attending Preakness this year. We live nearby and its always a last minute decision of whether or not we will go depending on the weather. I saw all of you crazy people coming out of InfieldFest last year looking like you lost a mud wrestling match. So maybe I will see you there, maybe not!

Mr. Trash Wheel’s 3rd Birthday Party
11:30AM – ?
Mr. Trash Wheel
Harbor East, Baltimore
I’m turning three years old and I demand a surprise birthday party from you humans. I’ve toiled for you, eaten your trash, and now it is your turn to give back by celebrating my continued existence on this planet. I will now completely forget that I asked for a surprise birthday party. If people were to show up on May 15, I imagine there would be students from Commodore John Rodgers Elementary School there to feed me a trash cake made from my favorite noms. I would also envision that there might be a performance of a song written about me. I would be completely shocked to find humans celebrating my birthday next week but a good kind of surprised. The kind of surprise that makes you delighted to be on this planet. Gee, I hope that will happen.

Vegan and Vegetarian Food – Live meditation. Poetry. Healing.
Meditation Monday with Tonya Parker
6:45PM – 8:15PM
Indiginal Artisan & Wellness Studio
213 W. Read Street, Baltimore
An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. “Watching your breath” is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation. Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means ‘a cessation of the thought process’ . It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns . The observer (one who is doing meditation) realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one.

The Cuisine of Cuba

Schola
1005 North Charles Street, Baltimore
With the relaxing of relations between the United States and Cuba there has been a renewed interest in the cuisine of this tiny island that lies just 90 miles from the tip of Florida. Since, until lately, all the restaurants were controlled by the government, the real cuisine of the country has been preserved in the home kitchens or Paladares, independently owned underground restaurants that are sustained by the nation’s thriving black market. Join us as we explore the everchanging dishes of this unique country. Arrozo Congri or rice and black beans and Ropa Vieja, shredded beef, form the staples of the table. But we’ll also make Croquetas with ham, Tostones or fried green plantains, Lechón Asado, one of our favorite roasted pork dishes and to finish, the traditional Cuban flan. $69.

Shannon Wallace – Serendipity – Creative Mornings
8:30AM – 10:30AM
The Room – Mt. Vernon
800 Saint Paul St, Baltimore
The term ‘serendipity’ was coined in 1754 by the aristocrat Horace Walpole. While reading a Persian fairytale called “The Three Princes of Serendip,” he wrote to a friend to share his realization. “The princes were always making discoveries, by accident and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of.” When you hear stories about serendipity, they have an undertone of delight, pleasure, and sometimes profound transformation. These unforeseen, joyful accidents are often the opportunities we seek and cherish—and above all, they’re moments that we don’t forget.

Baltimore Museum of Art
10 Art Museum Drive, Baltimore
Pastor Greg Ward’s un-holy matrimony is threatened when First Lady Simone Ward continuously stores baggage and bitterness into their marriage due to unsettled and painful memories that a much younger, careless and sinful Pastor Greg created years earlier. Meanwhile, fighting the temptations of the single life will finally be put to rest when Sheila, an un-happily married woman fulfills her strong desire to be alone and part with Nathan, her loving husband of thirteen years. Through-out Sheila’s pursuit for freedom she realizes that her marital issues aren’t half the drama that she has made it out to be after being exposed to the other couple’s deeper troubles! There’s A Stranger In My House is a hilariously remarkable fresh stage play that reveals how devotion, strength, and hard work are must haves to maintain the “I DO’s” in damaged Marriages.
