LEAR at Single Carrot Theatre
Oct 6 – 29
Thursdays-Saturdays 8:00PM, Sundays 3:00PM
Single Carrot Theatre
2600 N Howard St, Baltimore
Shakespearean drama meets millennial self-indulgence in this outlandish and driving take on King Lear. Boring, stuffy parents have been left for dead – consigning audiences to the not-so-tender mercies of a younger generation, a mix of heroes and villains indulging their own selfish whims. Despite sharp wits and sharper teeth, these Kardashian-esque kids are comically shallow, callous, and vain: more concerned with dancing and drama than their own doomed parents. But superficial pleasures can only reign for so long before their conscience catches up with them, unearthing ugly secrets, doubts, and fears.

We* Are The Asteroid
7PM – 10PM
Current Space
421 N Howard St, Baltimore
We* Are the Asteroid pairs Liz Ensz and David Moré in their first exhibition together after more than 15 years in conversation about discarded objects, decay, value, hidden beauty, freedom, hope, and resilience. This exhibition presents multiple options for the future of the Earth and Civilization by uncovering utopian and dystopian elements legible within mundane objects and materials.
This exploration of the contemporary American landscape has been fueled by a concern for material value and economies, availability of resources, and the identification of our most abundant and untapped resource, our own waste. Our material footprint will outlive the emblems designed to signify our political and moral ideals, and stand as our lasting cultural monument.
This collection of transformative material gestures present a comparative study of the mass-cultural investment in disposability and the human desire to imagine permanence through emblems, monuments, and commemoration. While disparate intentions inform these impulses – one to remember, and the other to quickly forget – each will materially describe our society to future generations. We hold up a mirror of trash to see ourselves clearly.
