I danced so much at the Fall Frolick last night that I can barely walk. Today is a day of recovery. Thank God it’s a three day weekend. There are SO many festivals this weekend with themes like fall, harvest, oysters, beer, etc. It’s safe to say there is something for everyone in Baltimore this week. Also, it’s totally fun running in to you guys when I am out and about. Don’t be afraid to say “hello”. I can be pretty socially awkward but its nice to know that you are picking up what I am putting down.

Korean cuisine is balanced by the seasons — stews tastes best in cooler weather and vegetables that grow in cooler weather taste best in stew — so during our stay we’ll do seolleontang (white beef stew), miyeok-guk (seaweed stew), sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) and beoseot-tang (local mushroom stew) all for health and clarity. Dishes other than stew, like bossam and pajeon, will be available too. Karma Farm will supply us with all manner of fall produce including winter squash, garlic, turnips, herbs and radishes and meat will come from local growers too. Susan Alcorn has a deep grasp of where pedal steel has been and is a bold pioneer of where it can go.

BYO yoga mat and water, Charm City Coffee Roasters will be providing free coffee. The event is part of Baltimore School of Music’s “Music in the Gardens” series in Sherwood Gardens. We invite guest to dine at New America on October 14th – the upcoming event presents two lovers exploring their relationship aloud amongst the dining hall. The dinner of the couple will be mic’d and they will go over a round of questions. This is an initiative to explore some of the difficulties involved with being two creative people and having to also maintain an intimate relationship. It questions the stereotype of the isolated artist by garnering real world examples and answers. Relationships tend to be in constant flux – processes, procedures, and practices– that sometimes need to be reorganized through the narrative of others for a better understanding of what sometimes is healthy and sometimes does/doesn’t work. We’re hoping that these dinner conversations present a kind of public intimacy and works through the theme of date night as a semi consumerist form but also a convention of monogamy – to find something slightly more complex. We see how 6 couples over the course of several months divulge parts of their relationship in public. The first couple is Nick Scholl and Daniel Wickerham who’ve been together 6 years and married 4 years in December.

Founded by guitarist/songwriter Miles Gannett of Baltimore’s Fractal Cat, the trio also features Fractal Cat’s Sean Finn on fiddle and French horn, and Ahren Buchheister on pedal steel and dobro. The Pickers’ inspirations include Townes Van Zandt, the Holy Modal Rounders, and the Incredible String Band, and their material ranges from Gannett’s original songs to “shroomgrass” covers.
