Baltimore Summer Restaurant Week is in full swing. Go out and eat something or try something new. It’s my birthday this coming weekend so I’ll be at the beach. Hopefully the rain will take a hike.

In his second album, Forced Witness, out September 8th on Secretly Canadian, Alex Cameron‘s solution to the difficulties we face is a danceable and dangerous earnestness, a sense of honesty that heals and relieves even as it cleaves us or makes us laugh in self-defense. He’s offering us vivid portraits of misfits who look at the world without illusion. With Jackie Cohen and Blacksage.

Free Improv Class
7PM – 9PM
The Crown
1910 N Charles St, Baltimore
Improv is the art form used by Tina Fey, Key & Peele, Will Ferrell and countless others to create their comedy. Improv is unscripted theatre and it is contingent upon moment-to-moment discovery and flexibility. It is often comedic, but not always. It has an excellent philosophy behind it: yes and. “Yes” is about embracing the situation you are given. “And” is about capitalizing on your given circumstance. Improv relies heavily on “if, then” styles of thinking, and encourages performers to embrace spontaneity and their intuition. It is also happens to be crazy fun! There’s absolutely no cost, just show up! Anyone can do it even if you don’t consider yourself a “funny” person. Bring a friend! Bring two! The more the merrier! Like a drop-in yoga class, every class will focus on a different theme.

Cordials are a delicious, seasonal, and versatile way to incorporate herbal goodness into your everyday life. They can be sipped neat, added to cakes, pies, syrups and other desserts, added to marinades and glazes, and of course, used in delicious herbal cocktails and digestifs! Instruction, herbs, and fruit needed to make your summertime cordial will be provided- just bring a 16 ounce wide mouth jar and a spirit of your choosing (750ml or enough to fill your jar). For your spirit, I recommend either brandy or vodka, but gin, whiskey, tequila, and port can also be delicious! Attendees receive 15% plants at B. Willow. This event is BYOB!

Feral Woman presents In Threes!
Aug 2-12, TR-Sun 8PM – 9:30PM
The Mercury Theater
1823 N Charles St, Baltimore
Adapted from Joy William’s novel, The Quick and the Dead, In Threes follows a trio of motherless girls who find the lines between life and death blurrier than imagined. In the height of a desert summer, anarchic Alice throws herself into environmental activism; quiet Corvus communes with nursing home patients; and dear Annabel desperately tries to behave like a typical teen. Thrust together, they explore signs and portents along with an ensemble of wonderfully perverse characters, including a stroke survivor with a monkey (in his head), a widower who cannot escape his dead wife’s wrath, and the pragmatic Emily Bliss Pickless, a very mature eight. At once uncannily funny and deadly serious, the play confronts the audience with a world in which the dead are forever interfering with the living, and the living–through memory, action, or inaction–must choose their relationship to the dead.

The year was 2013 the words “twerk” and “selfie” were just added to the dictionary, 46 million people were playing Candy Crush on their phones, and “Get Lucky” was the song of the summer. Deep in the heart of Hampden, an ice cream shop nestled in the space of an old pharmacy hung their ‘OPEN’ sign for the first time. Since that first day, The Charmery strives to be a gathering spot for the Baltimore community we love so much. Now, we have spread the love west with our Towson location and opened the Ice Cream Factory in the Union Collective.
On August 4th, we celebrate all we have to be thankful for with a free baby scoop (with purchase) at all locations, along with temporary tattoos, and all sorts of festivities! We will be scooping from a special dipping cabinet featuring the flavors we opened The Charmery with! In addition, the Ice Cream Factory, for the first time ever, will be opening its doors for a full sensory tour experience. Tours at the factory will be at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm.

Every full passport (one stamp from all 3 shops) can be turned in day of (August 4th) for a Charmery gift bag including free ice cream. Those submitted by August 13th will be entered into a drawing to win some cool free Charmery swaaaaaaaaaag!!!

Hollins Summer Sounds
4PM – 7PM
1100 Hollins St, Baltimore
This summer, War Horse Cities CDC aims to build on the rich cultural history of Hollins Market with a monthly concert series across from the market. Drawing on our successful projects all across the city like Belvedere Square Summer Sounds that attracts over 3,000 people every Friday, Hollins Summer Sounds aims to bring together folks from the community and surrounding neighborhoods. We are partnering with Troy Staton of New Beginnings Barber Shop to organize the four events and book diverse local acts that will attract all. The monthly concert series will feature local vendors, food trucks, bands, activities for children, and overall a fun, welcoming, and safe environment for the community.
