A long weekend is coming up, yes! Tons of fun going on and since the weather isn’t going to melt your face off it is finally safe to go outside again. Brews and Board Games at The Windup Space is on Tuesday. I usually pass through for a while. It’s a fun way to meet new people. The Baltimore Comedy Festival is going on through Labor Day so be sure to check it out. I’m headed to the beach again, probably the last time this season. Go have some fun before everyone heads back to school!

CRS & Baltimore Orioles 75,000 Meal Challenge

Catholic Relief Services and the Baltimore Orioles are fighting hunger together and need your help. To celebrate CRS’ 75th anniversary, help us raise enough money to send 75,000 meals to vulnerable people in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Fifty cents a meal can feed 50 people for only $25. The Challenge culminates with a spirited meal-packaging event at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. When you register as a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to package meals alongside former Orioles players and the Oriole Bird. Space is limited. Join us as we knock one out of the park and together, build a future free from hunger. Fundraising teams that raise $500 (to fund at least 1,000 meals) will receive 10 tickets to the Orioles game against the Houston Astros on Saturday, September 29 at 7:05pm. She’s also the creator and host of “SoapBOX Poetry Radio”, interviewing nationally and locally known poets and writers. Mecca is currently one of Baltimore’s Youth Poet Ambassadors, demonstrating that literacy, insight, and political engagement are not only beautiful – but vital to preserving our nation’s democracy.

The Resonant Rogues, based out of Asheville, NC, are the songwriting soul child of partners Sparrow and Keith J. Smith. With influences that include Appalachian old-time, Balkan folk music, Swing Manouche, and early New Orleans Jazz, they take their favorite flavors and blend them into a delicious, danceable dish. The Rogues are rounded out by world renowned violinist Daisy Castro and swing master Eric Heveron-Smith on the upright bass. The Resonant Rogues have toured relentlessly over their 5-year history, covering most of North America and Europe. This jaunt will take them through both new and old favorite cities throughout the North East USA, and into Canada with a couple of dates in Montreal.
Drawing inspiration from the great jazz violinists of the past – Stephane Grappelli, Stuff Smith and Svend Assmussen, and Didier Lockwood, to name a few – Baltimore based violinists Matt Andrews and Nataly Merezhuk came together in 2017 to form their own innovative jazz violin ensemble.
