Oh wow, there are SO MANY festivals this week. Good luck deciding which ones to attend. This week is going to be crazy busy for me. On Monday I’m venturing out to Hershey, PA to see the Backstreet Boys in concert! Here’s hoping that the experience is better than the last attempt. Thursday is Dining Out For Life at lotst of participating Maryland restaurants. Saturday is so packed full of awesomeness! I’m going to check out Hampdenfest 2019 first because toilet bowl races, duh! Then it’s the 2nd Charm City Night Market in Market Center! I got my Joy Luck Club early bird tickets and I can’t wait for another awesome experience! On Sunday I’m going to check out The Big Dill™ World’s Largest Pickle Party at POWER PLANT LIVE! If you are the person at meals who is always asking companions if they are going to eat their pickle, this event is for you. As you can see, so much to do this week! It’s going to be so much fun!

Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at Baltimore Concert Opera
7:30PM – 10PM
Engineers Club at the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion
11 West Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore
BCO opens its 11th season with a good cry, with the help of Puccini at his most tragic. Set against the backdrop of war and a clash of cultures, Madama Butterfly follows 15-year-old Cio-Cio-san from joy to despondency as she is married against her will to American Lieutenant Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton, professes her love to him, and then waits for three years for him to return to her and their son. Cio-Cio-san’s misplaced faith in Pinkerton results in one of the most transcendent and affecting moments in operatic literature, Cio-Cio-san’s aria “Un bel di vedremo.” Butterfly represents Puccini at his most romantic and at the height of his compositional powers. The piece will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Join us for a free pre-performance lecture 30 minutes before each performance.

The answer is when the Baltimore Improv Group invites you to have your life memorialized in a series of made up, totally unprepared comedy scenes celebrating you! Come join a hand picked cast of BIG’s best improvisers as they comedically revere some of Baltimore’s most important movers and shakers.
Alix Tobey Southwick is the youngest daughter of an Artist mother and Scientist Father. She grew up in the Virginia and Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Starting at a fairly young age, she took classes at the Corcoran School of Art at the Corcoran Museum, and photography classes at the Smithsonian. She received a BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts in Richmond, VA, and then left Richmond for Baltimore several months later. After nearly a year of waitressing, bartending, and modeling at MICA, she took a job as a Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician making artificial limbs and braces. She did this job for a little over 34 years. Then one day a third of the technical staff was let go, herself the last to be set free. Searching for a new day job, she found background acting work in various Baltimore based productions including VEEP and HOUSE OF CARDS, and a few bigger roles in student thesis films. In the Spring of 2014, she joined the Screen Mechanics union, IATSE, to work in the Scenic Department for HOUSE OF CARDS. Her artwork has shown in various group and solo shows throughout the Mid Atlantic area, including the home of the Hubble Telescope, The Space Science Institute. At the moment , she has a solo show at Wishbone Reserve in Hampden from September 6th to October 6th called Daydreams and Nightmares. Currently semi-retired, Alix spends her days making art full time, reading at least 100 pages of books a day, watching films, and brushing her two cats.
