Things to do in Baltimore this week 11/25/19

Hi friends! Events are pretty light this week as people prepare for Thanksgiving. Plenty of fun to be had on Thanksgiving (Drinksgiving) Eve. Quite a few restaurants are open on Thanksgiving if you don’t feel like cooking. Good luck if you venture out on Black Friday and don’t forget to shop small on Saturday! I’ll be in Las Vegas so I’m missing it all. Have some Baltimore fun for me!

The prospect of meeting the genteel Miss Hardcastle terrifies the diffident youngster; but the serving-girl Kate — in fact, Miss Hardcastle, who chooses not to clarify the misunderstanding — immediately catches his fancy. After a series of trifling confusions and inevitable eavesdropping, all is resolved. A comedy that has been an audience favorite for over 230 years.

Finger bowls at Hutzler’s Colonial Tea Room. The bell outside the door at Martick’s Restaurant Francais. Details like these made Baltimore’s dining scene so unforgettable. Explore the stories behind thirty-five shuttered restaurants that Baltimoreans once loved and remember the meals, the crowds, the owners and the spaces that made these places hot spots. Suzanne Loudermilk and Kit Waskom Pollard share behind-the-scenes tales of what made them tick, why they closed their doors and how they helped make Baltimore a culinary destination. Suzanne Loudermilk is a freelance writer who previously worked at the Baltimore Sun as a reporter and editor and at Baltimore magazine as the food and travel editor. She is also an adjunct professor at Towson University. Bring your own equipment! Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Lord Baltimore Hotel is a 22-story French Renaissance hotel which stands 289 feet tall. It is the largest hotel in Maryland, located downtown, it’s an ideal place for business travelers, as well as people who are seeking respite from the many demands of life…and death! The Lord Baltimore hotel is rife with reports of ghosts. There is the ghost of the young girl who is continuously seen on the hotel’s 19th floor and even in the ballroom. She is often seen in her long, cream dress and black shoes playing with her red bouncing ball. Employees have seen the ghost of the little girl, as well as the ghosts of two adults. Sometimes, the little girl can be seen screaming, crying and rocking herself back and forth. There is talk of a young girl’s suicide on the 19th floor. It is said that the hotel’s elevators make constant trips to the 19th floor at night even when no one is ringing the bell. People have reported being touched by unseen hands in the elevator, as well as the lobby. Guests who are sensitive to the paranormal have reported waking up with nightmares. They have also complained about an unseen presence lingering in their rooms whilst they sleep. We will be investigating different areas each and every investigation. Every time you come, the ghost hunt will be slightly different. Some locations are subject to availability.

Wreath making is one of the oldest ways to mark the winter season. It was, and still is, a way to preserve a little bit of nature during the winter. Participants will make wreaths using all sorts of locally available material including evergreens, branches, berries, succulents, dried flowers, fruit, veggies and more. Burlap ribbon, colorful twine, and other odds and ends will be available to help personalize your wreath. Two methods of wreath making will be taught: hand wired and using wreath machine.
