Hi friends. This has been a difficult post to make as I’m uncertain which events will still be happening amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. Most of the theaters and improv groups I have shared below have said “the show must go on!” If you are healthy and not at risk of interacting with anyone who is vulnerable/immunocompromised please support your local theaters and artists by attending a show. If you are unable to attend in person, consider purchasing a gift certificate or making a donation to the theater. A lack of attendance can be devastating to these small companies.

Also, don’t forget your favorite restaurants and small businesses, they are hurting too. Lots of restaurants are offering curb-side pickup or delivery and taking extra precautions with cleaning and staff health. If you are worried about going somewhere in person, buy a gift card to help sustain these small businesses during this time. We want all of our favorite places to be there when this is all over so it’s up to us to make sure that happens.

As the event environment is constantly changing right now, please follow my Facebook page as I am trying to keep up to date on the state of things. In the meantime, please read the statement below and take action on behalf of our theaters.

As theatres shutter, professional actors and stage managers are at risk of lost income, health care and retirement savings. “Now is the time for Congress and local governments to put workers first to ensure that everyone who works in the arts and entertainment sector has access to emergency paid leave, health care and unemployment benefits. Payroll tax cuts won’t help those whose theaters are now dark. For every middle-class actor you see onstage, there are dozens more working behind the scenes and in an administrative capacity.” We need Actors’ Equity members to contact their legislators and tell them to protect live entertainment workers during this pandemic. “Decisions made now will impact many arts organizations and the communities they serve for months to come. Sustaining our entertainment sector and the workers who power it is essential to the stability of communities across the country. We must act, and quickly now, not only to protect public health, but with arts funding at all levels that ensures local arts employers have the resources they need to quickly recover and reopen when appropriate. This will ensure the arts continue generating the economic halo effect that boosts local communities large and small.” Send a letter to your Senators & Representatives today and urge them to act now!

Founded in 1980, the Market is a non-profit organization offering baked goods, produce, fruit, prepared foods, and flowers to patrons from all economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds. Our Market mission is to provide a vehicle for independent vendors to survive large agribusiness competition, while making available a variety of produce, meat, bread, and plant selections to an under-served city community. Our vendors provide an opportunity for farmers to sell their products directly to the public, and for the public to benefit from access to fresh food that they would not otherwise have available to them in the immediate area. All funds collected from Market vendor spaces fees and membership donations are put toward market expenses. Any profits after expenses are paid are donated back to the community in the form of annual grants to local nonprofits.
